| Title: | The New Design of IOTC’s Database |
| ASFA Terms: | Information systems |

| Abstract: | The original IOTC database was developed in Microsoft Access, a desktop DBMS. As the size and
number of simultaneous users connected to the database grew, it became obvious that it was necessary to
shift the database to a Client/Server system, capable of attending high-load requests from concurrent users
over a network. In addition, during the normal use of the database several limitations of the original
design were detected, particularly in terms of framework rigidity. To address these problems, a new
design based on the Client/Server paradigm was implemented.
This document describes the new design, and discusses the concepts and objectives on which the new
design was based. The new data base design was implemented on Microsoft SQL server and is currently
fully functional. |
