Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in green mussel of the Bay of CienfuegosAbstract
Polycyclic Aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are polluting alimentary and their toxicity is due to that some of them are known cancerigenic human, classified in two groups of the International Agency of Investigation on the Cancer (IARC). The determination of the levels of these substances in foods, especially in products of the fishing, it has been increased in the last years by diverse causes. The objective of this study was the determination of the PAHs in mussels of Bay Cienfuegos, 50 mussels specimens with dimensions among 80-100 mm of long, they were homogenized and I take a sample of 5 g of fresh weight they talked to n-hexano and saponification with KOH-methanol, the obtained fractions were concentrated and purified in silica-alumina column; and determined by gas chromatography with detecting of flame ionization, using surrogates and standard internal isotopic for the quantification. 14 PAHs and the total concentration of PAHs were detected in the mussels it was of 1 171,90 μg/kg, corresponding him the highest values to; phenanthrene (264,01 μg/kg), fluoranthene (246,59 µg/kg) and chrysene (148,19 µg/kg), as long as the benzo(a)pyrene values were of 25,88 μg/kg, value this very superior one to the allowed maximum limit of this compound in bivalve molluscs (10 μg/kg fresh weight). These results indicate a high contamination with PAHs, which should be influenced by the urbanization/ industrialization of the costs of this bay.
