| Résumé: | Se presentan los resultados obtenidos para la tortuga carey (Eretmochelys imbricata) en la plataforma cubana, a
partir de los monitoreos en los dos sitios de captura comercial: Cocodrilo (Isla de la Juventud) y Nuevitas; entre
1995 y 2006. Se analizan algunos indicadores poblacionales como el comportamiento de la composición por
talla, la talla media anual y la proporción sexual de los careyes capturados, así como el comportamiento de la
captura comercial anual en los dos sitios. Se concluye que la talla media de los careyes capturados en la Isla de
la Juventud y Nuevitas, se ha mantenido estable a lo largo del tiempo, con un predominio de las tallas menores
en la Isla de la Juventud; y que la proporción por sexos favorable a las hembras muestra un incremento
sostenido en el tiempo en los dos sitios de monitoreo. El número total de careyes capturados anualmente entre
los dos sitios estuvo por debajo de la cuota establecida de 500 ejemplares exceptuando los años 1997 y 2000.
Results are presented from monitoring of hawksbill turtles (Eretmochelys imbricata) commercial catch in two
sites of the Cuban shelf: Cocodrilo (Isla de la Juventud) and Nuevitas, between 1995 and 2006. Some population
indicators like size composition, mean annual size, sexual proportion of hawksbill turtles caught in the former
sites, as well as commercial annual catch in both places are analyzed. It is concluded that the mean size of
hawksbill turtles caught in Cocodrilo and Nuevitas has remained stable along time, predominating the smaller
sizes in Isla de la Juventud and that sex proportion, favorable to females; show a sustained increase in time in
both sites. Total number of hawksbill turtles caught annually between both sites was below the established
quota of 500 individual excepting for 1997 and 2000 years. |
