| Résumé: | Se realiza un análisis de la tendencia de la anidación para la tortuga verde (Chelonia mydas) y la caguama
(Caretta caretta) en sus principales áreas de reproducción en el Archipiélago de los Canarreos, a partir de la
cuantificación de los nidos encontrados en el período 2001-2006. Los resultados indican incremento de la
anidación de la tortuga verde para todos los sitios de puesta del Archipiélago y de la tortuga caguama para las
playas de los Cayos de San Felipe y de Cayo Largo, aunque en ninguno de los sitios fue significativo
estadísticamente. Sin embargo, para la caguama hay decrecimiento de 46 a 24 nidos en el Sur de la Isla de la
Juventud y de 75 a 17 nidos para las playas de los cayos al este de la misma, posiblemente por aumento de la
depredación humana en el primer caso y por el cambio de la configuración de las playas en el segundo. Para
ambas especies la tendencia es al incremento para toda la zona de estudio (de casi 1 000 a más de 2 000 nidos
para la tortuga verde y de 149 a 289 nidos para la tortuga caguama).
An analysis on the nesting trend for green turtle (Chelonia mydas) and loggerhead turtle (Caretta caretta) in their
main reproduction areas in the Archipelago of Canarreos is carried out from quantification of nests found during
the period 2001-2006. Results indicate an increase in nesting for green turtles at all nesting sites in the
Archipelago and for loggerhead turtles at the San Felipe keys and Cayo Largo beaches, although it is not
significant statistically. Nevertheless, for the latter species a decrease from 46 to 24 nests south of Isla de la
Juventud and from 75 to 17 nests in beach keys to the east of the former region was observed, probably due
to an increase in human depredation in the first case and to beach profile changes in the second. For both
species, the observed trend is to an increase throughout the study zone (from less to 1 000 to more than 2 000
nests for green turtles and from 149 to 289 nests for loggerhead turtles). |
