| Abstract: | It is widely recognized that islands, especially small
island states, have many common features which make
them economically, ecologically and geopolitically
vulnerable to external shocks, and therefore that they
function at a disadvantage compared to larger states.
Some of the features that give rise to this vulnerability
include small size, isolation from major markets,
ecological fragility, geographic dispersion and limited
resources (Commonwealth Secretariat 1997). |
