Fourteen species of damselfishes (Pomacentridae) are so far known to occur in the Colombian Caribbean. Seven of them are classified m the genus Eupomacentrus: E, dorsopunicans, E. planifrons, E. partitits, E. latcostícins, E. sífilis, E. rariabilís and the estuarine species, E. oiophorm. Likewise the two Caribbean species of the genus Abu- Jrfihtf are known from Colombia: A. saxatilh and A. taurus. One of the more abundant damselfishes of the Colombian coral-reefs is Microspathodon chrysurus. The young of this species have developed a special behavior, picking at the sides of surgeonfishes and parrotfíshes, thus disturbing them. The genus Chromh is reported with four species: C. cyanea y C. multilincata as shallow water species, C. scotti and C. insoluta from deeper waters.
