The ariid Notarius grandicassis (Valenciennes, 1840), commonly known as Thomas sea catfish, occurs at northeastern South America, ranging between Colombia and Brasil. It was reported originally from the mouth of the Amazon to the Golfo de Venezuela. In 2002, it was reported from the Colombian Guajira peninsula. Herein, we report the species from the mouth of the Magdalena River (Bocas de Ceniza), where it is rather frequently obtained by fishermen.La familia Ariidae grandicassis Notarius (Valenciennes, 1840), conocido comúnmente como el bagre de mar Thomas, se produce en el noreste de América del Sur, que van entre Colombia y Brasil. También se informó inicialmente de la desembocadura del Amazonas hasta el Golfo de Venezuela. En 2002, se informó de la península de la Guajira colombiana. Aquí se reportan las especies de la desembocadura del río Magdalena (Bocas de Ceniza), donde es objeto de frecuentes capturas por los pescadores.
