| Abstract: | The workshop was held on the island of Djerba, Tunisia, from 22 to 25 November 2000. A total of 15 scientists originating from nine countries attended the seminary at the invitation of CIESM. In opening the meeting, Dr. Frederic Briand, Director General of Committee, and Dr. Jean Mascle, Workshop chairman and President of CIESM Marine Geoscience Comittee, expressed their great pleasure to see eminent researchers from both shores gathered here-and in many cases meeting each other for the first time-to tackle in an orginal and intensive fashion a complex and challenging issue: the African continental margins of the Mediterranean Sea. |
