During the VII Ecuadorian Expedition to Antarctic in the Guayaquil - Valparaíso - Guayaquil route (december/97 - march/98), oceanographic stations were performing to register cuali-cuantitative variations of phytoplankton of Southeastern Pacific Ocean during "El Nino" 1997-98 conditions. The biomass of phytoplankton is measured chlorophylls "a" levels showed lower concentrations between 0.015-04 mg/m³ to the 100m depth. The phytoplankton composition in december/97, registered the most dominance of diatoms at southward Gulf of Guayaquil with lower concentration at 20° S, the main species were Chaetoceros affinis, Skeletonema costatum, Rhizosolenia imbricata, Ch, leavis, R. alata var curvirrostris, Climacodium biconcavum, R. styliformis. The dinoflagellates species had the widest distribution in the area studied (3°16'-31°23'S) with rank of temperature between 27.54°C and 17.67°C, were Ceratium incisum, C. carriense, C. breve, C. teres, C. falcatiforme, C. euuarcuatum, C. pavillardi, Dinophysis caudata, Ornithocercus steinii, O. Thumi, O. magnificus, Pyrocystis fusiformis, Protoperidinium quarnerense, P. cf conicum, P. longipes, P. ocanicum, P. pedunculatum, Prorocentrum micans, Podolampas bipes, and some Epiplocides reticulata, Eutintinnus lusussundae, was indicators of oceanic waters advanced to chilean area. At to 30° S, the dinoflagellates were most dominant groups, with C. tripos, C. furca, C. pentagonum var subrrostrum, Goniodoma polyedricum, G. polygramma, species. |
