The objective of the present study was to carry out a assess of plankton productivity nearest of the Puntilla Santa Elena, for the projection of future Artificial Reefs, carried out by the Oceanographic Institute of the Ecuadorian Navy, during august 2002. The investigated area presented high concentrations of primary and secondary productivity in the column of water (0-10m), with certain daily fluctuation characteristic of the trphic coastal systems that shows the circulation of the coastal currents and submarine topography. The main alimentary complements were the centric diatoms with high chlorophyll (Phytoplankton); the copepods and cladocera were the representative in the second level trophic (Zooplankton). It was a high diversity of fish eggs and larvae, information that would confirm that this sector is an spawn area for this month. The high diversity of crustaceans larvae, makes show off that the substrates of artificial reefs will be an attraction for crabs, shrimp and other crustaceans. Although the stadiums of sessile benthic organisms presented low density of briozoos larvae, cirrepedios, shells (bivalve mollusks and gastropods), they would be those that would populate the superficial layer of the new artificial structures. These marine organisms of the food chain constitute an excellent natural resource for fish and invertebrate organisms, consequently the artificial reefs would be favorable for the reception of the sessile organisms (as macroalgae and corals) and refuge area to alimentary support for other organisms like the fish.en
