The present paper is the result of the analysis of ichthyoplankton samples colected ten miles off shore from Salinas - Península Santa Elena, since november 1999 until july 2000. During this period it has been found two points of high secondary productivity: in subsurface waters ( 0-50 m depth) during may, and in surface waters during march. The biomass of microzooplankton, eggs and fish larvae Engraulidae and Clupeidae were found in high quantity in these months mainly between the 0-50 m depth. The interrelation among planktonic foraminifers species: Globigerina bulloides, Globigerinoides ruber, Globigerinella aequilateralis, G. menardii, G. dutertrei and G. sacculifer, characterized the surface equatorial waters with the influence of cold waters of the Humboldt Current during this study, specially in march. Fish larvae like Anchoa sp., Anchovia (anchoa), Engraulis ringens (anchoveta) y Cetengraulis mysticetus (chuhueco), were identify since march to july. C. mysticetus was the most abundant specie. High diversity of zooplankton and fish larvae E. ringens and Opisthonema sp. (pinchagua) ocurred in may of 2000 also.
