By using the DINEST program, the salt transport was calculated in the Guayaquil Gulf estuary. This program became a good tool as a first approximation to analyze the conditions of an estuary. From the output of this program we found a clear influence of both the tide and the river discharge. It is clear how they change seasonally. The river zone extends to Station 7 (2°25'S) in the west season, but it occurs on the east side of the estuary only. The mixing zone reaches 2°10'S in the dry season. We also found that there is a higher rate of salt transport in station 16 and 10 in the dry and wet seasons respectively. At Station 16, the circulation is influenced by local topography, morphology and fresh water discharge, figure 1. Also, the transportation rate is influenced by waters from the Humboldt current to the south and from the waters of Panama to the north.
