|Résumé: ||Due to the need of the general data collection and information system in I.R. Iran, through a resolution of the 27th session of UNESCO general conference, the establishment of a NODC in Iran was facilitated.
In 1993 the draft resolution 153 was adapted. Finally in 1995 the Iranian Oceanographic Data Centre (IRODC) was established in the Iranian National Center for Oceanography (INCO) and introduced as the node of the International Oceanographic Data and Information Exchange (IODE) in Iran.
By the end of 1993 IRODC was equipped to three 486-66Mhz AST computers which worked in a LAN network with NOVELL operating system. In 1995 with collaboration of UNESCO two Pentium 75Mhz IBM computers, an optical drive and a digitizer were added to the system.
Today IRODC has 10 Pentium 200Mhz and 233Mhz computers with Windows NT operating system in a LAN network. Some auxiliary equipment is HP & EPSON laser printers, HP scanner, CD-Writer, CD-Reader and Modem. This centre has been using INTERNET services since 1994 in the form of dial-up and since beginning of the year 2000, it is equipped with a leased line. In 1997 IRODC was equipped to a THRPT-6 earth station for receiving NOAA digital data with use of a Pentium 66Mhz HP computer. The most common used software is popular GIS software such as CARIS, MAP INFO, ARC INFO. For image processing ER Mapper and IDRISI are used. Visual Basic is the common programming environment and for data banking ACCESS and FOXPRO are used. Scientific experts in IRODC are specialized in geophysics, geology, computer science (software).|
